Leighton Properties has achieved a significant milestone with the ‘topping out’ – completion of the uppermost level – of their $93 million commercial tower development located on the corner of Brisbane and Bell streets in Ipswich.
Part of the $1 billion ICON Ipswich urban renewal project, 117 Brisbane Street – a nine-storey A-Grade commercial development – is a joint venture with Ipswich City Properties, and is one of an anticipated three commercial towers planned within the ICON Ipswich precinct.
Ipswich City Council Mayor, Cr Paul Pisasale, said the tower’s progress represented a significant achievement for Ipswich, in the wake of the 2011 and 2013 flooding events.
“New developments such as 117 Brisbane Street are a sign of Ipswich’s resilience following recent floods,” he said.
“This iconic landmark is supporting local jobs – it will boost our local economy and drive further commercial interest in Ipswich – helping to grow our city and the surrounding region.”
Leighton Properties Project Director, Bradley Norris, said the topping out milestone had been achieved on schedule.
“To see the exterior of the building taking shape is an exciting stage in the development’s progress, and is a clear demonstration of the continued progress of Ipswich,” he said.
“We are also on track to achieve Practical Completion by September 2013.”
117 Brisbane Street comprises 15,000 square metres (sqm) of commercial space together with 750sqm of ground floor retail.
On completion, the commercial tower will be occupied by the Queensland State Government, which has committed to a 15-year lease for the full 15,000sqm of commercial space.
Leighton Properties is continuing to progress negotiations with several national retailers for the ground floor retail tenancies.
